RARE & FINEST is an exploration into the untouched side of Matcha.

In this season, 2 MOUNTAINS, 2 STORIES, we journey into FUJI & TENRYU, the least explored parts of Japan in search of the finest Matcha that we carefully hand select, guided by stories and flavours we truly believe are worth sharing with the rest of the world.

This archive introduces a curated selection of four rare cultivars from these two mountains:

  • FUJI / Matcha Series: Yamanoibuki & Yabukita
  • TENRYU / Matcha Series: Tsuyuhikari & Ooiwase




FUJI / Matcha Series

At the summit of Fuji, the process begins with the spring thaw. The snowmelt filters through decades of volcanic basalt; a natural purification process that enriches the water with minerals.

The tea roots naturally absorb the mountain’s unique essence. This creates a profile unlike any other: crisp, rich in Umami and brilliantly clean, finishing with a delicate nuttiness that feels like a cold morning breeze on Fuji.

TENRYU / Matcha Series

In the deep gorges of Tenryu: a natural shading process created by the river mist. The temperature variance between the water and the mountain air generates a heavy, consistent mist which acts as nature’s own ‘shading cloth’ shielding the leaves from direct sunlight.

The constant moisture encourages the tea to develop a deep, brothy Umami and remarkably velvety; capturing the damp, resonant essence of the Tenryu forest and offering a clean finish that lingers after the first sip.
