GENMAICHA FAQ
- What is the difference between Matcha and Genmaicha?
Matcha is pure green tea in powdered form, whereas Genmaicha is a combination of green tea and roasted brown rice ground into powder form. Hence, Genmaicha has a rice crackerish aroma and taste, combined with a lingering Matcha aftertaste.
- Does Genmaicha contain caffeine?
Matcha generally contains one-third less caffeine that coffee, which is why Genmaicha is a suitable coffee alternative. For those who are looking for a morning latte alternative with less caffeine, try drinking MOKUREN / Genmaicha!
- How long can I keep MOKUREN / Genmaicha powder for?
Once opened, it can last up to 1 year. Store in the refrigerator before and after opening. Always seal tight and keep away from light, heat and moisture.
- Can I store it in a separate container?
If you want to store it in a separate container, choose a small non-transparent and air-tight tupperware. You may also use a proper tea canister.
- Is Genmaicha safe to drink for pregnant women?
Yes, Genmaicha is suitable for pregnant women because it has lower caffeine level compared to coffee, along with many health benefits.
- How many cups of Genmaicha should I drink a day?
It is recommended to drink not more than 3 cups a day.
- What tools do I need to make Genmaicha tea or latte?
We recommend YUKIWA / Hand Mixer or ASAGAO / Chasen (Bamboo Whisk) to mix your Genmaicha powder together in water or milk. Using a spoon to mix is not ideal as it will create undissolved clumps in your drink.
- Can I drink Genmaicha cold or hot?
Genmaicha can be served both cold or warm, both versions taste equally amazing! To prepare warm tea, please use 75’C warm water (not boiling water) in order to bring out the natural flavours of Genmaicha (If you use boiling water, it will burn the Genmaicha and extract more bitterness flavour).
- Does it contain sugar?
No, there is no sugar added to our Genmaicha powder. If you prefer a sweeter flavour, you can add sugar or honey to your Genmaicha tea or latte.
- Can I use MOKUREN / Genmaicha in baking?
Of course! We recommend you to use MOKUREN / Genmaicha in any of your desserts or pastries. MOKUREN / Genmaicha is trusted and used by hundreds of our cafe and patisserie customers & clients worldwide.
- How do I know if MOKUREN / Genmaicha powder is suitable for me?
MOKUREN / Genmaicha powder is best used for Genmaicha teas, lattes, baking pastries and desserts. If you are a Genmaicha latte lover or a homebaker, MOKUREN / Genmaicha will be perfect for you!
- How many cups of Genmaicha tea can I make?
